We’re kicking off the July 4th holiday with a week full of activities to celebrate our nation's independence. It’s one of my favorite times to get together with family and friends. It’s a different kind of celebration, full of vivid memories we all know so well. For me, it’s the smell of pie cooling in the summer breeze, fresh cut grass, and meat on the grill. I still remember when no one knew what vegan was and Paleo sounded like a planet. Kids were playing in the streets and no one had a cell phone. That’s what’s beautiful about the Resort. You can still walk down the street and hear kids playing in the pool and see families riding bikes together. The smells, sights and sounds of summers gone by are still here at the Resort, and they are coupled with cool ocean breezes and the visual backdrop worthy of a postcard.
During Independence Day week, we have fun summer games planned, including Corn Hole and Human Foosball competitions. Do you have what it takes to be our winner? Enjoy the sound of the concert Monday night with Trade Winds playing live while sipping on a resort-made margarita. We have a new recipe—let us know what you think!
We can’t forget our furry family members, so we’re having a pet challenge in July! Text a picture of your pet to 619-500-1881 so that we can post it on our front office bulletin board. Our guests will vote for their favorite photo. Do you have the cutest pet ever? Does your pet have personality? Let our guests be the judge! The winner will be announced at the Friday, July 13th Happy Hour.
We’re starting a Book Club this month and will meet on Monday the 30th for a potluck lunch. Look out for the monthly selection on our bulletin boards.
Until we see your smiles, Safe Travels,

This month we wanted to pay tribute to some of our most popular guests here at the Resort: Fido. We have a lot of dog lovers that visit the Resort, and we accommodate them with a place to bathe these cherished members of their family, as well as three pet relieving stations that are kept super clean! We also have a fantastic park surrounding the Resort for great dog walking opportunities. With all the activities in San Diego, pet lovers often use doggy daycares to keep their pets while they go sightseeing. One of our guests noticed that her dog became more anxious in such facilities and decided to use private dog-sitting services, where they have no more than five dogs at a time in a home setting. This is a great option for some people. A few of our guests have used Kim Artiaga of Kim’s Paws & Claws and have given her great reviews.
Are you are looking for a place to take your dog for dinner? Try Lazy Dog’s Cafe, Katy’s in nearby Imperial Beach, or Pier Cafe. Pier Cafe is a casual beachfront eatery in Imperial Beach with tasty surf and turf and dog-friendly outdoor seating with beautiful ocean views. What about a dog park where your pet can play off-leash? Try Otay Ranch Town Center Park or Montevalle Park Dog Park (both located in Chula Vista) or the famous Coronado Dog Beach, right around the corner in Coronado.
When you are staying at the Resort and want to find some upcoming dog friendly events, visit bringfido.com. Here are a few to mark on your calendar:
Animal Care Facility in Chula Vista will provide free microchips to help reunite lost pets and their owners on July 1st;
Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competitions will be held on July 29th; and
National Dog Day, at Fiesta Island, will be held on August 25th
